Which antivirus with active protection uses the least resources?
I need an antivirus for a pc with low specs and installing linux isn’t an option.
The computer has Win FLP on it 64 MB Ram and is used for editing in Word 2000.
So far it works great but i need an antivirus.

Nod32 uses few resources, and is rated in the same class as the top rated Kaspersky.
Having tried both I still recommend Kaspersky. (you can find it cheaper on amazon)http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?q…
Nod32 http://www.download.com/ESET-NOD32-Antiv…
If you want the Top rated Free Protection that also uses low resources use Avira Antivir,http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe… in conjunction with SuperAntispyware.http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware…

I was searching for antivirus performance charts and i found that the software with less demanding resources was AVG. But i don’t think it will work smooth less in a 64 MB computer. But give it a try.
Get it at download.com

NORTON and AVG are CRAP
Spware Terminator is also crap
Norton and Spyware Terminator uses up too much resources
AVG has poor detection
Use AVIRA ANTIVIR instead… it’s the best free antivirus and it’s the one I’m using right now and it’s super great bytheway…it doesn’t slows down your pc
I’d suggest you further reinforce your pc if your on the internet most of the time… try Online Armor and Spybot S&D as well as other spyware scanners
try this security combo:http://www.free-av.com/ – Avira AntiVirhttp://www.tallemu.com/ – Online Armor Firewall (Not Vista Ready, Use Comodo Firewall for Vista) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybo… – Spybot S&D (and add more spyware scanners not antivirus)http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ – Mozilla Firefox orhttp://www.opera.com/ – Opera
by the way they’re all FREE….
I recommend you not to use Internet Explorer, use firefox or opera instead, either is better and safer than IE AND ….
always remember AVG, NORTON, Spyware Terminator are crap, trust me I have used them before and they’re such a headache
good luck making the right choice

With only 64 MB of RAM, your need for real-time antivirus is probably not going to work well. For any antivirus, it must run the all the time the computer is on, or at least online. If this computer never goes online, why do you need antivirus? … That said, I believe your best bet would be Avast 4 Home. The latest revisions were just installed on my computer – I’ve used Avast for 4+ years. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…

64 MB is very low in today’s standards. Anyway, you’re best bet is Avast 4.8 Home edition (free).
This current edition uses very low system resources, and has built-in anti-spyware and anti-rootkit capability. You can also schedule boot scans. It has 7 layers of shields: Web shield, IM Shield, Standard Shield, P2P shield, Outlook Shield, Internet Mail Shield, and Network Shield.
